DJ T-Bird

T-Bird's sound can be traced back to four main elements - jazz, soul (funk), Hip-hop & dub. Complex rhythms, harmonies and melodies from masters such as Cannonball Adderly and Herbie Hancock would not be out of place in his set. Having been raised on soul and funk, playing rare-groove was as simple a decision as mining his parent's record collection. While T-Bird is not a "Battle DJ," he incorporates turntablist techniques and will occasionally perform 2x4 sessions (2 DJ's, 4 turntables) with other well-known DJs. Hypnotic bass and radically changed timbres, floating above bedrock grooves are another touchstone of T-Bird's sound. All these genres and many others - including trip-hop, house, drum & bass/jungle - are also likely to be woven into his set. And quite seamlessly, I might add.

T-Bird's love of sound - both natural and altered - has always influenced his production and his DJing. His career began with residencies at LA acid-jazz staples like the Internationalist as well as his own night, "Jazzid Up!" All of this helped him to establish his own personal style of mixing. He developed "Cookin," a night that laid the groundwork for Los Angeles' one and only 2-Step/UK Garage event, "Pull." T-Bird has played beside DJ greats, Marques Wyatt, Swedish Egil, and Mark Hill of Artful Dodger. His years of dedication behind the decks have resulted in a smooth, even style that demonstrates both a soul and dance floor punch. His eclectic surprises always keep the crowd guessing.

Whatever the future holds is never of certainty for him. T-Bird is currently involved in recording - both remixes - as well as original material. And a plan to tour is currently in the works.
